FCDL is once again working with partners across the UK to review the Community Development national occupational standards (CDNOS). The standards describe what a person needs to do, know and understand to carry out good quality community development practice, and they can be used in many ways.

This review is taking place in the context of policies and ‘reforms’ that are contributing to rising inequalities and discriminating against the communities and individuals who already experience marginalisation and discrimination.

We want to further improve the 2009 CD NOS so that they can support community development practice to be as effective and relevant as possible in supporting communities to organise and take collective action around their own priorities.

The workshop explored:

• What are the key issues facing communities and community development practitioners?

• Discuss the key purpose, values, roles described in the current CDNOS and suggest what needs to change, go or be added

• How we can make the revised CDNOS both stronger and more accessible
